Spring Lamb Cake Pan by Nordic Ware

This is a two piece lamb cake pan.  When the two pieces are baked off and put together it makes a 3-D lamb shape that actually looks really cool and realistic.  This cake tin would be perfect for Easter, Christmas, or any other event.

3-D cake molds are pretty tough to decorate well.  In order to be really successful with this you’re going to need a lazy Susan and a steady hand.  When I’m decorating cake molds like this with an icing bag I start with straight lines around the bottom and work my way up to the top.  Starting at the bottom gives you a straight line to begin with and allows you to have a point of reference to keep the lines looking good the whole way up.  I know that a lot of people will do this the opposite way, but this has worked for me in the past.

If you want to make this easier don’t use an icing bag.  Use a combination of stiff and soft spatulas to get the icing on there and smooth it out.  It’s not going to be as detailed, but the cake will look and taste pretty good.

This is a Nordic Ware pan so you know that you’re getting restaurant quality at a fair price.  These pans are pretty hard to track down locally, and if you did it would run you about $30.  Right now, Amazon.com has it for $20 and it qualifies for free shipping if the order is over $25.
