Elmo cake pans are easy to decorate and fairly easy to find. There aren’t many things that can bring a smile to someone’s face as fast as an Elmo shaped cake so this cake is always a hit at birthday parties, school events, or any sort of get together. In this post I want to offer a few tips for decorating the Elmo cake pan as well as show you where to get it at a fantastic price.

If you’ve ever decorated shaped cakes before you know how to work with food coloring. I’m sure that after looking at the pictures of the decorated Elmo cake you’re wondering how in the world did they ever get the icing for his face so red?! The Elmo cake pan instructions say that it’s a small amount of red and orange coloring mixed into 1 1/2 cups of buttercream icing. I’ve decorated this cake a few times and have never been able to get close to the color without the frosting tasting toxic from adding too much red food coloring! I’m convinced that the picture is either doctored to look more red or the cake is inedible. If you can get the color right, please leave a comment below (I’d love to know!). If not, expect to have a medium reddish-orange colored Elmo!
