A checkerboard cake is just about the most surprising cake around. Using this shaped cake pan will create a checkerboard of vanilla and chocolate (or whatever flavors you want) inside the cake. No one will know until you cut it open and everyone can see!

This set comes with three nine inch circular cake pans with one divider that creates the symmetrical checkerboard inside. You’ll have to cook each of the cakes separately since there is only one divider, but the effect is well worth it!

A trick that I learned with this is to use the darkest chocolate cake mix you can find. The darker the mix, the better it creates a separation with the white cake. Using a German chocolate or dark chocolate mix is best. You can also use a mix that is richer than you would normally like since the vanilla will balance it out.

If you’ve never baked a checkerboard cake, relax, they’re really easy. If you can successfully bake a regular cake you can bake the checkerboard. I added this picture in so that you can see more closely

what it will look like when it’s finished. A darker chocolate would have produced better results than what they got in the picture.

Your friendly neighborhood Spiderman has a great shaped cake pan that will make any Spidey fan ecstatic when they see it. This cake pan is updated from the one that we had when we were younger and has much more “attitude” than its old-school counterpart.

I love this shaped cake pan, and I’m sure you will too! The Spongebob Squarepants character shaped cake pan is perfect for making any kid feel like a million bucks on their birthday! I’ve baked this cake a few times and have to go watch a few episodes of Spongebob right after just to get the giggles out of me!

Tinkerbell Cake Topper

While this isn’t exactly a shaped cake pan, it does add a ton of flair to a circle or rectangle cake. If your skills aren’t great with decorating shaped cakes, I recommend using a cake topper or something like it to dress the cake up really nice. This cake topper is Tinkerbell, perfect for your little fairy!

This is a dual purpose cake topper. After it’s been used on the cake, it also comes with a clip that works as a backpack clip or a key chain.

The picture shows the cake topper on a rectangle cake, but in my opinion this would be perfect on top on a tiered circular cake. A white cake with pink details and this on the top would be a the perfect birthday cake for the Tinkerbell in your life.

Really, who wouldn’t love an Elmo shaped cake pan? I would be flattered if you made me one, and I would giggle with every bite I took! In my opinion, this is one cake pan that every baker should have since everyone loves Elmo. It’s also a great cake pan to get the hang of decorating with an icing bag. Most of his face is a solid color, so it’s really easy to work on technique and gain confidence decorating cakes.

Shaped cake pans are the perfect beginning to any great party or get together. A cake is always a lot of fun, and that enjoyment is multiplied when it’s fun and festive shaped. There aren’t a lot of things that make a kid any happier on his or her birthday than a cake of their favorite cartoon character or activity (except maybe the toys to match!).

For most, the preparation of the cake is the highlight. Extra hands are always needed to decorate, taste, and lick the beaters. In my home, baking cakes is a family event and I’m sure that it’s the same in yours. The purpose of this website is to help you find the shaped cake pan that you need so that you and your family can enjoy it together.

If you’re using a cake mix, one batch will generally be perfect for a shaped cake pan. You want the mix to fill the pan 1/2 to 2/3 full so that it rises to the top without having a muffin top. I usually follow the recipe for the cake mix, and get good results. If you’re unsure, use the Betty Crocker temperature (350 degrees) and cook for 30-40 minutes, until a toothpick can be removed cleanly.
